Introduction

PAARC is a library that enables Windows Phone 7 devices to be used as remote control or input devices for any .NET desktop application. Supports raw (multi-)touch input, gestures (tap, double-tap, hold, pinch, drag, flick), sensors (accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, combined motion) and text input using the SIP. Uses TCP/UDP sockets for maximum performance and responsiveness, and has a server discovery mechanism (multicast) to auto-connect to hosts on the same network. The library comes as multiple components (class libraries) that can be integrated in your own projects both on the phone (Silverlight/XNA) and desktop (.NET), and it has a reference WP7 client you can use to start without creating a separate Windows Phone app first.

Announcement

The project will switch from Mercurial to TFS shortly. Unfortunately this means that work items and source control history will be lost (more details here). Update: the conversion has finished and the old Mercurial source has been restored into a main and dev branch. I also updated the releases as far as possible, to point to the correct new change set identifiers (and remove old invalid ones). Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

PAARC accepted into the Marketplace

A few days ago, the Windows Phone reference client has been accepted into the Marketplace and can now be installed comfortably by everyone who owns a "Mango"-compatible device. The Marketplace link is: http://windowsphone.com/s?appid=c094fd13-3771-4bf9-b546-83c482f293f2.

I've also used this opportunity to add a first release of the library to the "Downloads" page. It contains both the binaries required to build your own applications as well as the complete source code of the project, including all samples.

Restored Dev branch after update from Mercurial to TFS: Added IP address selection option to the logging server and console sample instead of taking the first one. Upgraded server-side projects to .NET 4.5. Change Windows Phone naming to more generic terms to include both version 7 and 8.

This release contains the required binaries to create your own applications, and also the complete source code of the library and all included samples. The Windows Phone application "PAARC" that has been accepted by Microsoft into the Marketplace (http://windowsphone.com/s?appid=c094fd13-3771-4bf9-b546-83c482f293f2) is based on this source code, hence it is considered stable.

Note: After upgrading to TFS from Mercurial, changeset 24422 will not produce the exact same output as included in the binaries download because dependent NuGet packages have been upgraded since then. If you need an identical repro of version 0.9 use the source code package download instead of the change set content.

I've just analyzed the problems for some time and it seems like the broadcasting mechanism does not work anymore on Windows Phone 8. I have to put more research into this to find the issue, it may also just be a networking problem I'm not aware of currently.

Other than that the project is working fine on WP8 once you set up the environment correctly (e.g. make sure the Firewall on the remote computer does not block the communication). I've still updated the project to WP8 though and also add some more features to the samples, in particular the possibility to choose from the available IP addresses so you can bind to whatever address is required (if there are multiple). I still have some work to do, like updating the referenced libraries (there seems to be a problem with the way I use the prompt control of the Coding4Fun toolkit with the updated version of it), so it will take some more time until I upload the changes.

Thanks a lot for your concern, i will be looking forward to a sample wp8 app(using PAARC library) from your side,
it would of great help for WP8 developers :)
( ow, and one thing, we're using visual studio 2012 express, so maybe no PLC support there, please provide necessary instructions as how to use the Paarc sample for wp8 without PLC support )

Hi.

I'd say that the components should continue to work as before, however there seem to be a problem with the phone client sample app and network detection at the moment. I'm quite busy at the moment, however since I recently moved to WP8 I'll also have a personal interest to fix this :). I'll keep you posted here.

How can i use PAARC library for Windows Phone 8 ? Is the same method as described in documentation?
I use Visual Studio 2012, Wp8 SDK, and
My development device is a nokia lumia 820

I downloaded the app and tried it with Visual Studio 2010 for Windows Phone,it did not support it and din work.. I also tried it in VS Express for Win8..Yet I get errors tellin the package cannot be loaded completely..Certain files are not getting added.. I kindly want to know how can I execute it and work on it.. I need to develop an application to control Windows Desktop through Windows Phone..Just give me a clear picture on how can I use PAARC and learn through it..
